Starting the year with a membership count of 1060, the IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter has witnessed significant growth throughout the year. As of the latest update, we proudly stand as the global leader among other ComSoc chapters, with a membership of 1865.
 
The project “Connect the Lives,” jointly submitted by IEEE ComSoc SBC MACE and IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter, has been successfully awarded funding totaling $4,794.63 under the IEEE ComSoc & IEEE HTB Internet for All Call for proposals. The TRIDEA (Tribal Resource Integration for Development, Empowerment, and Advancement for All) project, submitted as part of the Internet for All Call for proposals, has been granted funding by the IEEE Humanitarian Technologies Best Practices and Projects Committee (HTBPPC). The awarded amount is $7,535.00, affirming the project’s alignment with humanitarian goals and its potential to contribute to development and empowerment in tribal communities.
 
The activities for the year 2023 commenced with the solicitation of applications from student members interested in joining the IEEE ComSoc student leadership team. The interview process took place on the 8th and 17th of January 2023, and the final team selection was concluded by the 20th of January 2023.
 
In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter organized an insightful talk on the theme ‘Revolutionizing STEM: Celebrating Women’s Leadership and Innovation.’ The event took place on the 9th of March 2023, conducted via Google Meet. Dr. Anupma Thakur, a distinguished Postdoctoral Research Associate at Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI, Indiana, USA, served as the keynote speaker for the occasion. Her expertise and experiences added a valuable perspective to the discussion, emphasizing the crucial role of women in leadership and innovation within the STEM fields.
 
The IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter organized its inaugural Young Professional (YP) meet-up on the 11th of March 2023.The event was hosted at the IEEE Kerala Section office in Trivandrum, providing a platform for young professionals to connect, share insights, and foster collaboration. Notably, this gathering marked the official formation of IEEE ComSoc YP Kerala, an exciting milestone for the chapter. The establishment of this subgroup reflects the commitment to supporting and nurturing the next generation of professionals within the field of communications and networking.

On April 21, 2023, the IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) Kerala Chapter, in collaboration with ComSoc Bangalore, Kolkata, and Hyderabad Chapters, successfully organized the 5th edition of The Graduate Congress: Graduate Thesis Evaluation in 7-minutes (GraTE-7). This annual event served as a prominent platform for M.Tech students and recently graduated PhD scholars from the class of 2022 to showcase their research through synopses and concise 7-minute presentations.

The event featured presentations from a diverse range of participants, each encapsulating the essence of their extensive research within the brief 7-minute timeframe. Pardhasaradhi Bethi from NITK Suratkal, Venkatarami Reddy Chintapalli from IITH, and Amit Baran Dey from NIT Silchar stood out for their exceptional contributions in the PhD category, earning the highest recognition for their outstanding theses. Similarly, in the M.Tech category, Samyuktha K from NITK and Adithya Rao R from Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham were acknowledged for their remarkable theses, establishing themselves as leaders among their peers.

Distinguished Lecture Program was conducted at Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur on Dec 11, 2024. The talk was conducted by Dr. Sudhir Dixit on “Towards the Internet of Senses: Integrating Human Mind, Body and 6G!” 

On May 24th, 2023, the IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter, in collaboration with IEEE SB Adi Sankara Institute of Engineering and Technology, organized an impactful online event titled ARISE. The primary objectives of this event were to provide valuable insights into Green Sustainable Communication and to foster IEEE ComSoc membership development among the participants. The event successfully achieved its goals, engaging participants in discussions about sustainable practices in communication technology while promoting the benefits of IEEE ComSoc membership.

The IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter conducted the Morse iT!2.0 decoding competition on June 10th and 11th, 2023, which proved to be a noteworthy success. This unique competition aimed to test participants’ skills in decoding Morse code, attracting enthusiastic participation from various colleges in Kerala.

The Face-to-Face Meeting and Volunteer Training organized by the IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter on June 25 2023 at the IEEE Kochi Subsection Office, Nippon Centre, Kalamassery, proved to be a valuable and enriching experience for the volunteers. The event successfully achieved its objectives of fostering teamwork, discussing future events, and promoting interaction between current and past leadership teams.

On August 19, 2023, an insightful one-day workshop on Industrial Trends in Data Science was conducted, providing valuable insights into the rapidly evolving landscape of data science in the industrial sector. Dr. Anjana P Das, Technical Specialist, Tata Elxsi was the resource person.

As part of AKSC 2023, IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter organized two sessions that delved into prominent topics shaping the technological landscape. The sessions, titled “Career Opportunities in Data Science” and “IoT – A Classic Recipe,” provided participants with valuable insights into the evolving fields of Data Science and the Internet of Things (IoT).

IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter successfully organized PROCOMM 2023, a prestigious communications project competition that gathered participants from various institutions. The final round of the competition took place on October 2, 2023, at RIT Kottayam, where the participants showcased their innovative communication projects. After a competitive and engaging final round, the team from TocH Institute of Technology and Science emerged as the winners of PROCOMM 2023. The teams from Mangalam College of Engineering and College of Engineering Perumon secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.

The All Kerala Communications Society Students Conclave 2023 (AKComSocSC ’23), the flagship event of IEEE ComSoc Kerala Chapter, took place on November 4th and 5th, 2023. The event was hosted by IEEE SB St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology, Palai. Dr. Lillykutty Jacob (Principal, Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirampally) and Dr. Manoj B S (Professor, Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram) graced the occasion as chief guests.

Three workshops on the topics software defined radio, machine learning, and ChaSTE/ Chandrayan-3 Precise probing were conducted as part of the event. These workshops were facilitated by experts in their respective fields: Dr. Gandhiraj R from Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetam Coimbatore, Akshayraj M R and Mohammed Raees P C from NIT Trichy, Dr. Nizy Mathew, Dr. Manju G, and Dr. Pradeepkumar P from Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram. Panel discussion, membership development session, cultural events were also scheduled as part of this event.
